April Member's Meeting
Thursday 17th April 2025
Dinner @ 6:30pm, Speaker Presentation starts @ 7:00pm

Guest Speaker
Orvis Wellesley Store Manager
Will Oliver
"Tackling the Farmington River"
How to build a plan for angling success
Will Oliver will discuss strategies for success and lessons learned on Connecticut’s Farmington River. Flies, hatches, flows, access, etc.
This is a great opportunity for members to learn more and ask questions about this great New England trout river.

This month meal is the annual "hot dogs and beans" dinner. Why not turn up early at the pond and chase some trout then tuck into a meal of hot dogs, sides and our NSC infamous baked beans. Then have some dessert and sit back and learn about the Farmington River from CT native and Orvis store manager Will Oliver.
Clean Up Day
The Spring Clean Up Day will be held on Saturday 19th April from 8am until Noon. There will be no fishing at the pond during this time. Members are asked to show up with gloves, rakes and anything else that will help to make our pond and it's banks cleaner and better for fishing. Some of the work to be done includes,
˗ Trash should be picked up along the shore.
˗ Rake the muck out along the shore and dispose in the woods.
˗ Clean, vacuum and tidy up the clubhouse.
˗ Cut back vegetation and branches for easier casting and access to the water.
˗ Cut the grass and repair the tire ruts around the clubhouse.
˗ Reposition and secure the anti-cormorant owls and blue heron decoys.
- Tidy out club shed and dispose of old tools and junk.

Every little bit helps and if you can not make it down to the club on Saturday morning please do what you can whenever you have some time either side of your next fishing visit to the pond.
Coffee and donuts will be the reward for those who put in a hard mornings work on Saturday
No "Official" Fly Tying Night this May
There will no formal fly tying event next month (May 2025) Our dedicated instructor and part-time pizza delivery guy are not available but if members want to coordinate an unofficial meet-up, please do. Let the club know and we can promote a "turn up and tie" night".

LL Bean Classes @ NSC
LL Bean will be using the pond for their "Introduction to Fly Fishing" course on Sunday 20th April between 10am and 3pm.
This is a prearranged event between LL Bean and our club. The pond will not be closed for fishing during this time but members are asked to give the LL Bean group space to fish around the clubhouse and along the parking lot and driveway wall.

Gilbert Hatchery Work Party Day
The next volunteer day at the Gilbert Hatchery (Plymouth) is planned for Saturday 31st May.
The club has a very strong relationship with Darlene and her hatchery and she greatly appreciated our efforts last summer when we took a work party down there.
Final dates, times and details will be announced later this month.
June Family Picnic @ NSC

This years Family Picnic is planned for Sunday 22nd June at 12pm. This event is in lieu of a June members meeting and is the last club event of the season.
Food will be grilled, too much dessert will be served and kids will catch a few trout using worms (fly-only restrictions are lifted from this day through the summer).

Fishing/Catch Report
Fish can be seen rising, swirling and chasing at most times of the day and as is to be expected, one month after stocking, they seem to be getting wiser and wilier to boot.
Members are catching fish but no real patterns are "emerging". A fast twitched black woolly bugger works catches a meaty rainbow, then a brook trout falls for a #18 hares ear. This past weekend, trout were caught out front on mop flies suspended a couple of feet down while out back they were taking small copper johns as they hit the water.
Check the catch board on the clubhouse porch wall for the most up to date info on what is working. Thanks to all members who have added their fly details and methods.
