September Members Meeting

ree

The first members meeting of the fall will be held at the clubhouse on Thursday 18th September. This meeting is open to all members and will have a focus on introducing our 'newer' members to fishing the club pond. There will be a short presentation about how to fish a small stocked trout pond and we encourage our old and new members to turn up and share knowledge and experience about catching trout in downtown Needham.

The charcoal grill will be fired up between 6-7pm for members who want to grab a sausage, burger or chicken wing. Some of our experienced fly fishing members will also be on hand to help out new members with basic casting skills before the meeting so bring your fly rod and reel.

Distance & Accuracy Casting Class

LL Bean (Dedham) have been using our club pond to host some of their fly fishing courses. This reciprocating partnership allows us to offer a small group of our members a chance to take advantage of their Distance and Accuracy Techniques course at our own pond. This is a great chance to work on casting techniques in a small group scenario.

The Distance and Accuracy course will be held at the club pond on Sunday 28th September from 9am-1pm. Spaces are limited to six (6) members so any interested members should email Club President Dennis P as soon as possible to reserve a place. Dennis will coordinate with members who have secured a spot.

Pond and Grounds Update

One of the biggest maintenance tasks in recent club memory was completed last week when the parking lot stonework was removed, back-filled and reset. Some of these blocks were close to toppling into the pond and as you drive into the club you will immediately notice the improvements both aesthetically and from a safety perspective. Approximately 50ft of of the most fished shoreline stone work was excavated and repositioned. A big thank you to lifetime member Paul D and his contact Mike D for this heavy, back breaking work.

The upkeep and maintenance of our small, private trout pond is an ongoing and never ending task and we accomplish this using the income from our 100 (ish) membership plus the endless volunteer hours of a small group of dedicated members. Keeping our small trout fishing haven in a safe, presentable and fishable condition is a year long endeavor so please consider helping out this upcoming Fall Clean Up Day or reaching out to one of the Board Members about how you might be able to help.
