January Fly Tying

The focus of this months fly tying night will be the Australian Bead Head Bugger (or Aussie Bugger).  This streamer should be a great addition to your pond fly box. Dennis Tibbets will be leading the instruction and offering help and advice with tying techniques and materials choices.

A full list of materials can be found on the Fly Tying page of the club website

2025 Membership Dues

To fish the pond, members must have paid their current years membership dues. The cost of annual membership increased to $250 this year ($100 for Juniors) to cover the rising running costs of our club.

So far,

  • 45 members have paid the 2025 dues.

  • We already have 8 new members for 2025.

  • 57 existing members (52 full and 5 junior) have still to pay 2025 dues.

Thank you to everyone who has submitted their 2025 dues already. If you have still to pay your 2025 dues, checks can be mailed to the address below and please include a SAE if you would like your 2025 membership tag sent back to you.

Members Meeting

There will be NO members meeting this month. The next meeting will be Thursday 20th February. This meeting will feature the club officers election business as well as a local guest speaker. More info later this month.

Club Officers and Board of Directors

Needham Sportsman's Club is always on the look out for members who want to be more involved with the running of the club and who are willing to volunteer a little time to help with the background tasks needed to keep out club successful. The required time commitment is small and can benefit the club greatly. For more information or to add your name into the mix get in touch with the club president or vice-president who will direct you towards this years nomination committee members.

The slate of officers for 2025-2026 will be voted on at next months members meeting. In lieu of the January members meeting look out for an email from the Nominating Committee and the Club President in the coming weeks.

Fishing Report

The recent mild and wet weather dispersed enough of the pond ice to allow our club die-hards time to cast a line.

Some anglers have been catching decent numbers of trout over the last few days. Most fish have been caught out back plus a good distant out from the shore. Subtle takes have been rewarding slowly fished bead head flies and once hooked the trout have been putting a good bend in the anglers rod.

Please remember to release fish quickly and if photographing your catch please do so in the net.

Fly Fishing Show

The Marlboro Fly Fishing show takes place on January 17th, 18th and 19th 2025. NSC will have it's regular club table. Some members have volunteered their time to represent and promote our club to prospective members. If you have volunteered and would like to know the final plans for your shift, please email NSC Vice President Jeff Boutin (vp.needhamtroutpond@gmail.com).

December Meeting Thank You's

Thank you to the members who festively decorated the clubhouse for last months meeting and a big thank you to the board members who collectively prepared and served the roast beef dinner. Thank you to the members (and their spouses) who contributed drinks and desserts.

...and Thank You to club paparazzo Bill Hagar for capturing some pics of the proceedings.
