December Fly Tying

The December Fly Tying Night will take place at the clubhouse on Tuesday 2nd December. Everyone is welcome, no tying experience or equipment required.

Fly Tying starts promptly at 6pm with most members showing up at 5:30pm to get set up and enjoy a slice of pizza.

This months flies are known trout catchers around the shores of the Needham trout pond, the Golden Retriever and the Maple Syrup. In Tony O's absence we will have two special guest teachers. Fly details have been posted on the club website (Fly Tying webpage).

Fishing Report

Trout continue to be caught using a variety of flies and methods. Bright streamers were successful earlier this week during the bright midday sun but the trout were a few feet down and a sink tip line was used. Mike H landed a peach of a brown trout out on one of his special nymphs and Cathy M netted a hog of a rainbow right out front of the clubhouse last week. Sometimes the fish are taking static flies in amongst the leaves, at other times they are feeding sub-surface and will take something with little to no weight but moved slowly. Wet flies and traditional flies have taken a good amount of trout on the opposite bank from the two platforms. Members who have braved the rain have also had success along the damn wall and out back. Remember the fish are already wet so play the weather and wind and also try different times of the day.

Brook Trout Stocking

During the first week of December we will be supplementing the October stocking of rainbow and brown trout with approx. 100 brook trout. These fish could not be added during the initial fall stocking due to their spawning season. This extra stocking is being funded by some of the money raised during the recent club raffle/auction. We will send out notification when the brook trout arrive.

December Member's Meeting

The December meeting will take place on Thursday 18th December. This is our holiday meeting that starts with a roast beef dinner at 6:30pm. More details to follow.
